The garden commemorates the 41 veterans who were killed in action in Afghanistan. The number ‘42’ represents the veterans who have returned and succumbed to to depression, post-traumatic stress and other mental health issues.
There is a large mural designed artist Lee Harnden, which includes the words of The Ode, the Australian flag, and the sculpture of a Special Forces soldier.
42 for 42 is a not-for-profit organisation which was founded by ex-Army veterans whose aim is to help struggling veterans and their families by building a memorial dedicated to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. A Saluting Their Service Grant was received to help develop the memorial.
