The `Wombats`

This plaque commemorates the strong bond and comradeship formed during Apprenticeship Training of the Wombats at RAAF Wagga from Jan 1958 to Dec 1960.

The Wombats provided exemplary service to the RAAF as tradesmen, non-commissioned and commissioned officers in engineering, flying and other branches.  Many saw active service in South East Asia and participated in peace keeping operations.

Wombats were recipients of Australian honours and distinguished and meritorious service awards.

They also contributed significantly to the corporate & public sectors and in private business.

The Wombat`s sense of spirit and unity endured unabated throughout their lives.

The Wombats also recognise Warrent Officer George Stirzaker, BEM, whose faith in the group of youth provided life long inspiration,
