The church was erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two.
The original church was damaged by a cyclonic storm in January 1955.
The church at Tambo was so severely damaged by a cyclonic storm on Monday night that it had to be completely demolished. The church, which was erected about 1880, was reputed to be one of the oldest in the diocese. It had been in constant use until the damage occurred. The parish priest, Rev. Father E. H. Fraher, has already made plans for the erection of a new church at Tambo.
