The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It consists of a granite cenotaph behind which is a wall which has numerous plaques attached, on which are inscribed with the names of individual veterans.
The Port Kembla RSL Sub-Branch was placed into administration in 2013 and its executive sacked over breaches of the RSL constitution. In 2015 RSL New South Wales finally put the premises up for sale with specifications in the contract stating the new owner must keep the public war memorial intact.
