The hall commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

The foundation stone of the hall was laid in 1958. An additional marble plaque was added to the front of the hall at a later date to commemorate those who served in World War Two, Korea, Malaya and Vietnam.
