The monument commemorates those who served in World War One and World War Two and was unveiled by Sir Dallas Brooks at the opening of the Memorial Reserve in 1952. 

The Governor and Lady Brooks, attended by Lieutenant A. F. R. Weir, R.N., opened the Mount Dandenong Memorial Recreation Reserve at Kalorama on Saturday afternoon.
