The monument was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.   It now also commemorates those who fought in World War Two and the Korean War.
 
The memorial was unveiled by Mr C.G. Latham, MLA on Anzac Day 1936. The dedication ceremony was performed by Reverend G Arblaster, Anglican Rector of Dowerin.
