The hall commemorates those who served in World Wars One and Two. It was originally erected after the end of World War One. A smoke room and ladies retiring room were added to the hall to commemorate those who died inservice or were killed in action in World War Two and opened on the 28th August 1947.
The Warden of Ulverstone (Cr. L. G. Vertigan), formally opening the Abbotsham memorial rooms on Thursday evening, praised the community spirit and co-operative effort that had made their erection possible. The memorial rooms comprise a smoke-room, 18 by 20 feet, erected at the end of the hall, and a women's retiring-room, 10 by 12 feet, on the western side. He declared the memorial rooms open, and requested the audience to stand for one minute of silence in memory of D. Rowe and J. McCulloch, who died on active service, and in whose memory the rooms were erected.
