The sculpture commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

The sculpture, the work of internationally acclaimed artisans Joan Walsh-Smith and Charles Smith is a stylized interpretation of the Australia Defence Forces’ Rising Sun cap badge. It is geographically positioned so that the rays of the rising sun shine directly through the arch each ANZAC Day.
