The foundation stone of the Paruna Soldier`s Memorial was laid in the name of the late John S. Petch as a mark of respect and esteem of soldiers and residents. 

The Paruna Soldiers Memorial was two rooms attached to the Paruna Institute Building and the foundation stone was laid in honour of those who had given their lives in the Great War. The stone was laid in the name of Mr. Petch who took a keen interest in the soldiers and the district.
