Messines Avenue of HonourPrint Page

Photographs supplied by Stephen Warren
The avenue of trees commemorates those from the Edwardstown District who served in World War One.
At Edwardstown this afternoon a pleasant time was spent in planting trees in honour of the brave boys who have enlisted from the district. The trees were planted in an avenue leading to Edwardstown Railway Station, off the South road. This avenue will in future be known as "Messines avenue." The first eight trees planted represent soldiers who from the district have made the great sacrifice. Others planted represent soldiers who are at the front and still going strong. Addresses were given by Mrs. Swift, who has six sons in the army and one in the navy, and by Hon J H. Cooke, M.L.C.
Mail (Adelaide), 25 August 1917.
