The monument commemorates those who served in World War One. It is a white granite obelisk on a four stepped base.
On Sunday afternoon a large gathering assembled to witness the unveiling of the memorial monument in the Soldiers' Park. Councillor J. B. Makin presided. The Hon. J. G. Bice performed the unveiling ceremony, and delivered an eloquent address. The Rev. H. R. Haworth (Congregationalist), Brother Walter (Anglican), and Messrs. Densley, sen. and jun., also took part in the service. Anthems were rendered by a united choir under the leadership of Mr. A. W. Shannon. The monument is of Angaston marble and of obelisk design.
