The plaque commemorates the centenary of the Heritage Early Childhood Centre building.

The building is believed to be the fifth oldest in Canberra, dating from the very earliest days of Canberra. Over its 100 years, the building, once known as the Bachelor's Quarters, has served many purposes.

It was initially a hostel for staff from the Survey Office, later housed Navy personnel during World War Two, and was home to thousands of public servants from 1946 to 1960. From 1960 onwards it was ANU student accommodation, when it was known as Lennox House. The building has been used for campus childcare since 1979 and became the Heritage Early Childhood Centre in 1995
