Front Inscription
This Carrara marble staircase was the centrepiece of the Charles Moore Department Store built on this site in 1912.
Only the facade and staircase survived a fire in March 1948.
The staircase dismantled in 1981 allowed the construction of the Sir Samuel Way Law Courts within the historic facade of the original building.
The plaque commemorating reconstruction of the staircase was unveiled on November 7, 1982 by the Lieutenant Governor the Honourable Sir Condor Laucke K. C. M. G.
