The statue was constructed by the Murweh Shire Council in 1967 as a tribute to the "swaggies" who, in the past, travelled from station to station seeking work. Its wording also speaks to contemporary travellers.
The concrete statue is three metres high, a swaggie with his dog at his feet, mounted on a three metre stand.

Front Inscription
His name is "Weary" and his face is one you`d see in every place.
He`s been through cold and rain and heat with aching limbs and tired feet.
From head to toe he seems to sag, he`s travelled far and humped his swag.
His dog too tired to scratch a flea now leans against his master`s knee.
If you feel travel stained and sad feel better now you`re not this sad.
Although you`ve lost a little zest poor "Weary" here can never rest.
