The plaque commemorates the official opening of the Cairns High School and Technical College in 1941.

The new Cairns High School will be officially opened by the Attorney General (Mr. J. O'Keefe) at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The ceremony will begin in front of the fine £30,300 structure, and then Mr. O'Keefe will open the door leading to the building, inside which be will unveil a tablet bearing particulars of the ceremony. The public will then be allowed to inspect the building.
