The monument commemorates the centenary of the Warrnambool College.

The Warrnambool College is an amalgamation of the Warrnambool Agricultural High School, Warrnambool High School, Warrnambool Secondary College which had amalgamated with the Warrnambool North Secondary College (formerly Warrnambool North Technical School).
