150th Anniversary of the First School in Newcastle Print Page 
The plaque commemorates the 150th anniversary of the first school in Newcastle which was opened in 1816 by Commandant Thompson.
Henry Wrensford was appointed to teach children of convicts at the site of the school which was located on the corner of Bolton and Church Streets.
