The foundation stone was laid in 2004 by the Kaurareg People to commemorate the Independent Church of Torres Strait and Kaiwalagal.
The land was given to Bishop Hankin by the Kaurareg People to mark the consecration of the first Torres Strait Islander Diocesan Bishop to the people of the Kaurareg Nation.

This foundation stone was officially laid by yhe Kaurareg People and consecrated by the Right Reverend Gayai Terence Hankin Th. A (Hon) Th. L the Diocesan Bishop on 26th November, 2004
