Olympic Torch MemorialPrint Page
Memorial to those who carried the 1956 Olympic Torch through Central Queensland.
The monument includes a replica of the torch and lists the names of the 216 relay runners who carried the flame. During the central Queensland leg of the 1956 Olympic torch relay, the torch was carried by an army truck, and held aloft by a series of runners clad in simple sporting whites. Both Rockhampton High School and Rockhampton Grammar School supplied teams of young athletes.
