To commemorate the arrival at the tollgate of a re-enactment of the gold escorts inaugurated by Police Commissioner Alexander Tolmer in 1852
The S. A. Police escorts brought gold from Castlemaine, Victoria, to Adelaide saving the colony of South Australia from economic ruin during the upheavals of the goldrushes
This plaque was unveiled on 8th October 1986 by Devon J. Batt, Mayor of Burnside, and Barry L. Schuetz, Mayor of Unley.
