A plaque erected to mark the location of a time capsule placed to commemorate the centenary of commencement of duty on Thursday Island by Lieutenant H.M.Chester in 1877.
H.M.Chester was appointed Police Magistrate on Thursday Island, with the subsidiary offices of sub-collector of customs and harbourmaster, on the 20th July 1877.

Front Inscription
On 10th July 1977 the Hon. J. Bjelke-Petersen Premier of Queensland placed a time-capsule beneath this plaque.
This was to commemorate the centenary of commencement of duty on Thursday Island by Lieutenant H. M. Chester first Resident Police Magistrate on 20th July 1877 it is intended that this capsule be opened in July 2027.
This plaque donated by the National Trust of Queensland.
