The plaques commemorate the re-enactment of the encounter between Matthew Flinders and Nicholas Baudin in 1802. The re-enactment was undertaken in 1986 as part of the celebration for the South Australia 150 year jubilee.

`The Encounter`
On 8th April, 1802 Captain Matthew Flinders in "Investigator" and Captain Nicholas Baudin in "Le Geographe" met at a point approximately 24km south east of this island.
On Saturday 18th October, 1986 as part of South Australia`s Jubilee 150 celebrations a re-enactment of that meeting was conducted by ships of the British, French & Australian Navies.
