The time capsule commemorates the sesquicentenary of the Major Thomas Mitchell Expedition which explored the area in 1846. Mitchell named the river the Barcoo and mapped the district enabling the establishment of the sheep industry.

Front Inscription
A time capsule was placed in this clock by the Blackall Historical Society on September 21st 1996 to commemorate the sesquicentenary of Sir Thomas Mitchell`s 1846 expedition through the area.
It is to be opened in 50 years time in September 2046.
