The plaque commemorates the bicentenary of the exploration and surveying of the eastern coast of Port Phillip Bay by Lieutenant John Murray who was commander of the "Lady Nelson." The plaque also acknowledges the traditional owners of the area,

The people of the Kulin lived in the
Port Phillip areas for over 40,000 years

On February 14th 1802
Actg. Lt John Murray, Commander of  
HM ship Lady Nelson entered the Heads and
surveyed the eastern coast of Port Phillip Bay.

Unveiled on the 20th February 2002 by
Martin Dixon MLA

This plaque has been placed in recognition of
the bicentenary of these events by
Rosebud & District Historical Society
