The gates commemorate the pioneers of Tarrawingee who settled in the area from 1854 to 1954.
To celebrate the centenary of Tarrawingee (V.) this year, residents are erecting Pioneers Memorial Gates at the entrance to the recreation grounds. These wrought iron gates set between concrete pillars have been financed by public subscription and will be officially opened at the "Back to Tarrawingee" celebrations on Saturday, April 3. The ceremony will climax a procession beginning at 12.30 p.m. and will be followed by a sports meeting at which a book giving the history of the district will be on sale.
