The cairn commemorates the pioneers of Lara. The cairn was unveiled in 1938 by the Minister for Water Supply, Mr Old.

A further plaque honours Matthew Flinders for whom the road here was renamed Flinders Avenue in 1974, the bicentenary of his birth.

Flinders Avenue.

To perpetuate the memory of Matthew Flinders, R.N. explorer of this area, this road was renamed Flinders Avenue by Cr. J. Deppeler, Shire President on 22nd March, 1974, the occasion of the Bi-Centenary celebrations
