Pioneers of Western AustraliaPrint Page
The stained glass window commemorates the pioneers of Western Australia. Many of the pioneers are buried in the East Perth Cemetery.
The design of the window shows biblical characters against a background of aboriginal motifs signifying the imposition of European civilisation on the aboriginal way of life. An aboriginal presentation of the Milky Way was taken from a bark painting at Yirrkalla in the Northern Territory. A concentric pattern used in the window matches complex incised-line designs used in drawings by aboriginals at Boulder, Port Hedland, Laverton and East Kimberley.
