The Crater Lakes Entry Marker Project commemorates the 50th anniversary of Mount Gambier being declared a city in 1954.
The council was created in 1932 when the District Council of Mount Gambier West and District Council of Mount Gambier East merged to become the District Council of Mount Gambier which was later proclaimed a city in December 9, 1954.
