The monument commemorates author Clare Scott-Mitchell. 
Clare Scott-Mitchell has had a long career of teaching children's literature at the Institute of Early Childhood (Macquarie University). She compiled two acclaimed collections of poetry for children - " When a Goose Meets a Moose" , "Apples from Hurricane Street" and "100 Australian Poems for Children".
