The headstone over the grave commemorates John Basson Humffray who led in Ballarat the constitutional struggle for political reform in Victoria, and was the first member of Parliament for West Ballarat and the first Minister for Mines.
The grave was restored and a new plaque detailing the text on the headstone was placed at the gravesite by the Eureka Stockade Memorial Association in 2006.
