The plaque was unveiled in memory of former Councillor Doug Krepp who who wanted to give Kalgoorlie-Boulder people the opportunity to experience the goldfields bushland as he had a child. As a result of his idea Karkurla Bushland Park was established. 

There is also a four kilometre walk trail named after him and on the 28th June 2017 an eco-cultural classroom was opened in his memory.
