The seat was erected in memory of the former Deputy Mayor and Alderman of Mosman, Dorothy Crawford (1919 - 1980).
Dorothy Crawford was elected as an Alderman of the West Ward of Mosman, from December 1965 to September 1971, when she was defeated at that election. She was then re-elected as an Alderman for the Balmoral Ward of Mosman from September 1977 to June 1980; and she was Deputy Mayor from 1979 - 1980, when she died 'in Office', on 3 June 1980.
