The headstone, erected over the grave, commemorates Billy Noongale who was an Aboriginal of the Beverley District, and a friend and companion of Sir John Forrest on his exploration trips from Perth to Adelaide in 1870.

Billy Noongale died in 1904 aged 52 years and his grave in the Beverley Cemetery was paid for by Sir John Forrest.
