The tree commemorates F. N. Gaylard, who initiated the first timber industry in the area.
The tree was planted during the 1940s by Mr Gaylard and was fenced in 1967 to perpetuate his memory for his contribution to the community and the timber industry. Mr Gaylard died in 1966.

Front Inscription
This Mountain Ash tree (Eucalyptus sieberi) was planted in 1940 by Mr F. N. Gaylard who died on 1st December, 1966.
This fence was erected to preserve the tree and perpetuate his memory and record his community service and contrubution to the Districts timber industry, 4th October, 1967
