The marble tablet commemorates Matthew Anderson R.N. who was in charge of the colonial hospital at Parramatta for many years.

THE LATE DOCTOR ANDERSON. - A very neat marble tablet has been placed in St. John's Church, by Mr. Patten, of Sydney, to the memory of Matthew Anderson, Esq., R.N., for many years in charge of the Colonial Hospital, at Parramatta ; died, 7th July, 1850, aged 61 years
