Memorial plaque commemorates Captain George E. Johnston who was killed in action in St Martin`s Wood, France, during World War One. 
 

There was a large congregation at St. John`s Church of England on Sunday afternoon when a memorial tablet was unveiled to the memory of the late Captain George E. Johnston. A good number of returned soldiers and members of the Citizen Forces attended. 

The tablet, which is on the west wall of the church, bears the following inscription:—"To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Captain George E. Johnston, killed in action after four years service with the A.I.F. at St Martin's Wood. France, on 23rd August, 1918. in his 25th year."
