The plaque, erected by officers and men of the Victorian Mounted Rifles, commemorates Lieutenant James Charles Roberts who died from a wound received in the Battle of Pink Hill in Rensburg South Africa in 1900.

Church News. A brass tablet was unveiled in Christ Church, Murchison, on Monday afternoon by Lieut.-Colonel M`Leish, "the tribute of the officers of the Victorian Mounted Rifles, the non-commissioned officers, and men, to the memory of Lieutenant J. C. Roberts Rushworth, who died at Rensburg, South Africa, February 13, 1900."
