The sanctuary lamp commemorates Flying Officer Edward Cyril Buckland who was killed when his aeroplane crashed in September 1944 during World War Two. He was a former chorister of the church. 

He was onboard the 27 O.T.U. R.A.F. Wellington bomber LP 436, when it crashed during a night bombing exercise.
