The plaque commemorates Sister Edith Blake of the Royal Navy who was reported missing, presumed drowned during the sinking of British Hospital Ship Glenart Castle in 1918. Sister Blake graduated from the Coast Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1912.

Sister Edith Blake RN graduated from the Coast Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1912
Matron Watson wrote to the Medical Superintendent Coast Hospital 9.3.18 (Letterbrook 1916 - 23 p.356.) " I regret to inform you that Sister Edith Blake, serving with Queen Alexandra's Imperial Nursing Service. is reported missing possibly drowned on 26th February 1918. She was on transport duty on British Hospital Ship " Glenart Castle" sunk by enemy action in the Bristol Channel, Great Britain, with heavy loss of life."
