The marble tablet, erected by the congregation, commemorates the Reverend Thomas Dove who was the first minister of the church.
Reverend Thomas Dove, a graduate of the University of Glasgow, arrived in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in 1835. In 1837 he was appointed Chaplain to the Aboriginal settlement on Flinders Island, after an appointment as District Chaplain at Oatlands was controversially revoked. From 1841 to 1844 he was a chaplain in the convict probation system. In 1844 he was appointed Presbyterian minister to the district of Great Swanport. He remained in Swansea until his death in 1882.
