The marble tablet commemorates Reverend Joseph Mayson (1808 - 1881), Minister in the District for 37 years.
The Rev Joseph Mayson was the first rector of Swansea. He arrived in 1839 and remained the rector until he retired owing to ill-health in 1876.

This Tablet Is Erected In Loving Memory Of the Revd. JOSEPH MAYSON By His Parishioners
To Whom He Faithfully And Affectionately Ministered In This District For 37 Years.
Born in Cumberland, England
March 18th 1808.
Died February 11th 1881.
