The seat commemorates Father John Roche who was ship`s chaplain on H.M.A.S. Shropshire during World War Two. Father Roche died in 1998.
He also served in the the parishes of Wollongong, Campsie, Broadway, Darlinghurst, Matraville, and Homebush in New South Wales.
Father Roche at one time lived at Darlinghurst, New South Wales with Mrs McDonnell of Bondi and Manly in New South Wales.
