William TomPrint Page
The plaque on Bethel Rock commemorates the service rendered to the early Methodist Church by William (Parson) Tom from 1830 to 1883.
'Parson ' Tom was a lay Wesleyan preacher who preached to local copper miners from "Bethel Rock" on his property, until a small church was built in May 1842. In the early 1830s he was joined by other Wesleyans from Cornwall. The district was named the Cornish Settlement. 'Parson' Tom, as he was known far and wide, was its religious leader.
