The Memorial Hall was dedicated to Robert Goodman who was minister of the Ashfield Baptist Church from 1936 until his death in 1939.
Robert Goodman was one of the outstanding ministers in the Baptist Union and was President in 1932-1933. He entered the ministry around 1909 and began work in the Wellington district. he served in many churches and also spent some time in Victoria.
