Ella Brothers Print Page
The plaque commemorates rugby union players, the indigenous Ella Brothers.
In the rugby union world their name came to signify excellence, for each was a master of his art and played rugby in its most entertaining form; Gary the technically superb outside centre; Glen a running fullback, always lethal in attack; and Mark whose combined skills and flair as five-eigth have never been equalled.
Mark and his brothers Gary and Glen were educated at Matraville High School, where they learned to play rugby. All three went on to play for the Australia national team. Mark was generally regarded as the best of the three, earning 25 caps in a brief but brilliant career stretching from 1980 to 1984.
