The plaque commemorates athlete Marlene Matthews.

In an era of exceptionally fast Australian woman sprinters, Marlene Mathews was one of the fastest. She set six world records, won bronze medals in the 100m and 200m sprints at the 1956 Olympics and won gold in both sprints at the Commonwealth Games. She was later an SCG Trustee.
