The plaque commemorates sportsman Dally Messenger (1883 - 1959).
Dally Messenger's all round brilliance as a rugby union player won his such a big following in Sydney that by deciding to switch to rugby league he virtually ensured the new code's success. A highly innovative running back and long range goal kicker, Messenger was, in either code the champion of the era.
