The tree was planted in memory of a former student of the school, Theresa Schrapel, who was tragically killed  in 1984. A new plaque was unveiled at the site of the tree on November 28th, 2014.

In 1984, Theresa had alighted from a car and had been crossing the road to her home in Penrice when she was tragically struck down by a passing vehicle.
