This tablet commemorates the opening on 20th July 1846 of the Portland Branch of the Union Bank of Australia Limited.

These premises housed the Branch from 1st August 1857 to 30th September 1951 when the Union Bank of Australia Limited was merged with the Bank of Australasia to form the Australia and New Zealand Bank Limited.
